It’s Black Friday! To business owners, this is the day to get out of the red and into the black on their bottom line. To consumers, it is a day for sales, and going into the red and out of the black on their bottom line.
To me, as a writer, it makes me think of the lines I have written this last year and how much black I have put on paper. Sure writing is a business, but I prefer to look at Black Friday to measure how much black ink I have actually used in my craft. Each year from now own, Black Friday will make me stop and think about my bottom line as a writer. Am I writing enough?
I love that you turned Black Friday into a way to see how much you’ve written this year. Awesome! I wrote three novels and also added to another. I’ve written about 50 short stories as well.
I don’t participate in the buying frenzy of Black Friday, so this post is great for me. 🙂
Rick, this is a great way to look at Black Friday! Much more constructive than getting out into the wild mob and spending money, when in reality, you don’t really save all that much to begin with.
I completed one novel this year, put finishing touches on two others, wrote 6 articles that were published, two short stories that are being published, outlined a new novel ( a biggie for me as I hate to outline anything), and developed the profiles for 10 characters that will appear in two more novels I have perking around in my brain.
I like your take on this, Rick. You got me thinking. Since I’m in a bit of a slump right now, it’s a little uncomfortable, but maybe it’s also the kick in the pants I need.
